Understanding Your Water Test Results

After a water quality test, you will receive results with various measurements. Here is what each number means and when to be concerned.
Hardness (GPG)
Measured in grains per gallon. Under 3.5 is soft, 3.5-7 is moderate, and above 7 is hard. Most Florida homes test 12-25 GPG — well into the hard range. A water softener is recommended above 7 GPG.
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids)
Measured in parts per million (ppm). Under 300 is excellent, 300-600 is acceptable, above 600 is concerning. High TDS often means you would benefit from filtration.
pH Level
Ideal range is 6.5-8.5. Low pH (acidic) can corrode pipes. High pH (alkaline) can cause scale buildup.
Chlorine
EPA allows up to 4 mg/L. Even at legal levels, chlorine affects taste, smell, and can irritate skin. A whole-house filter removes chlorine from every tap.
